Q. How is Legal Aid administered and how are lawyers selected to work in this area?

A.

The Community Legal Services Commission administers the legal aid scheme through its office, Community Legal Services.

 

All attorneys-at-law are invited to work for the Legal Aid Scheme. They decide whether or not they wish to join the panel of attorneys and also select the areas of law in which they wish to provide services. Services are divided into the following areas-CRIMINAL-FAMILY-CIVIL.

 

At present there are about one hundred and thirty (130) attorneys on this panel.
